Gurdwara Darshan

Many Sacred Sikh Gurdwaras can be found in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar of particular importance is the five sacred pools in this city. These are called sarovars and it is the practice of some Sikhs to have a dip in all five of these holy pools. Apart from being good exercise, it acquaints one with the importance of these five sites .We Can also call it Panj Sarovar Yatra. If any one Visit Amritsar one must dip in all five Sarovars.
These five holy Sarovars are
Harminder Sahib (1586) Santokhsar (1587-88) Ramsar (1602-03) Kaulsar (1627) Bibeksar (1628)
Harmandir Sahib

Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple, (on account of its scenic beauty and golden coating for English speaking world), is named after Hari the temple of God. The Sikhs all over the world, daily wish to pay visit to Sri Amritsar and to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in their Ardas.

Guru Arjan Sahib, the Fifth Nanak, conceived the idea of creating a central place of worship for the Sikhs and he himself designed the architecture of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Guru Arjan Sahib got its foundation laid by a muslim saint Hazrat Mian Mir ji of Lahore on 1st of Magh, 1645 Bikrmi Samvat(December,1588). The plan to establish a town settlement was also made. Therefore, the construction work on the Sarovar(the tank) and the town started simultaneously in 1570. The work on both projects completed in 1577 A.D.

The construction work was directly supervised by Guru Arjan Sahib himself and he was assisted by the prominent Sikh personalities like Baba Budha ji, Bhai Gurdas ji, Bhai Sahlo ji and many other devoted Sikhs.As Hindu Temples having only one gate for the entrance and exit, Guru Sahib got it open from four sides. Thus he created a symbol of new faith, Sikhism. Guru Sahib made it accessible to every person without any distinction of Caste, creed, sex and religion.Guru Arjan Sahib installed newly created Guru Granth Sahib, in Sri Harmandir Sahib and appointed Baba Budha ji as its first Granthi i.e. the reader of Guru Granth Sahib. After this event it attained the status of ‘Ath Sath Tirath’. Now the Sikh Nation had their own Tirath, a pilgrimage center.

Gurdwara Ramsar sahib

Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib Amritsar stands alongside the Ramsar sarovar, the smallest of Amritsar's five holy sarovars.

Located near Chativind Gate of the walled city of Amritsar. The original Gurdwara was first built in 1855 at this site. However, long before any Gurdwara was constructed, Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji was looking for a quiet spot away from the growing city of Amritsar.Guru Arjan chose this site as the spot where the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji would take form. Guru Arjun Dev for a year or more went into seclusion along with his scribe, the great savant Bhai Gurdas to compile the holy Adi Granth. The sacred volume was completed in 1604 and installed with due honor and ceremonies in the Harmandir Sahib. The selection for the Holy Scripture was based on the principle of the unity of God and the brotherhood of mankind. In this unique holy book is preserved the purity ('f the scriptures, embodying, the philosophy of the Gurus for the perpetual guidance of the Sikhism and other faiths.

Gurdwara Santokhsar Sahib

GURUDWARA SHRI TAHLI (SANTOKHSAR) SAHIB is situated in the Distt City Amritsar. Situated near Hall Gate When (GURU) RAM DAS JI, had not yet ascended to the gaddi, came from Goindwal Sahib on instructions from SHRI GURU AMAR DAS JI and got started excavating Sarovar. Thus this sarovar is the first Holy tank of Sikh History. BABA BUDDHA JI was appointed to supervise the work of construction. SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI used to sit under Tahli Tree, hence the GURUDWARA SAHIB is also known as Gurudawara Tahli Sahib. Santokhsar is the name of the sarovar here.

When Bhai Jetha began the work on digging Santokhsar sarovar, he found a yogi, meditating nearby. After sometime the yogi opened his eyes and told Bhai Jetha that he had been meditating here for a long time, waiting for a Guru to give him salvation. He disclosed his name as Santakha and then breathed his last.

Gurdwara Kaulsar Sahib

This sacred Sikh shrine known as Gurudwara Mata Kaulan or Gurudwara Kaulsar Sahib is located behind the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple in Amritsar.This Gurudwara g3ets its name from Bibi Kaulan, a renowned disciple of Guru Har Gobind. She was a Muslim follower of the Sikh gurus.

Baba Budha Ji, the first head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, oversaw the excavation of Kaulsar, which began in 1624 and was finished in 1627. Kaulsar is one of Amritsar's five sacred sarovars. The Sarovar is the first shrine to bear a Muslim woman's name.

The significance of Gurdwara Mata Kaulan and Kaulsar sarovar could be adjudged from the fact that Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh guru, had directed the devotees to take a dip in the Sarovar Kaulsar before the Golden Temple sarovar. (a sakhi to this effect is written right outside the entrance of Gurdwara Bibi Kaulan, adjacent to Darbar Sahib).

Gurdwara Bibeksar Sahib

GURUDWARA SHRI SHRI BIBEKSAR SAHIB is situated in City Amritsar. Situated near Chattiwind gate it marks the place where SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI used to tie his horse with Kareer Tree. Whenever GURU SAHIB used to come back from hunting, he used to take rest at this lonely place for a while. GURU SAHIB himself laid the foundation of the holy Sarovar \.Here GURU SAHIB used to discuss religious things with wise people.

Gurudwara Bibeksar Sahib is situated near Chattiwind Gate in the holy city of Amritsar. Lying about 1.5 Km from the Golden Temple and directly opposite Gurudwara Ramsar Sahib, it was the congregation site of followers of the 6th Sikh Guru, Hargobind Singh Ji and son of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Named after the Bibeksar Sarovar (lake), it is believed that Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji used to go hunting and when tired, used to come to this bare piece of land, tie his horse to the Kareer Tree and lay down there. He liked the place so much that he decided to build a Sarovar there. He laid the foundation for the holy tank in the year 1628.

The Gurdwara became the place where Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji's thoughts and teachings were preached. It also hosted many important meetings. There was a green garden inside the Gurdwara where Hargobind Sahib Ji spent the night preaching to the masses. The Kalil tree still exists in memory of this great teacher. The last Saturday of every month is special.Langar and kirtans are organized as the gurudwara enliven with hymn chanting and gorgeous lighting.
