Hanuman Mandir

The Hanuman Temple in Durgania, Amritsar, is a revered sanctuary dedicated to the worship of Lord Hanuman.  Every year, many devotees visit the temple dressed as monkeys, in a tradition called the Langur Mela. The tradition is said to have started centuries ago when couples who prayed for a male child would bring their children to the temple dressed as monkeys to say “thank you”. The temple is known for the continuous chanting of Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman.  Followers of the temple perform the Langoor dance to honor the monkey god. 

Ram Tirath

Sri Ram Tirath Ashram is a renowned shrine in Amritsar that shares a deep connection with Maharishi Valmiki.  Legend has it that the present ashram stands at the location where the sage had his hermitage and where he composed the epic Ramayana. It is also believed to be the site where Sita took shelter, after being abandoned by her husband Ram and even gave birth to her twins, Luv and Kush.

A major attraction in the present-day shrine is the 8-foot-tall statue of Valmiki, completely plated with gold. It also has many temples within its premises along with Valmiki’s hut and an old tank, which is believed to have been dug by Lord Hanumana.

Shivala Mandir

Shivala Veer Bhan is a Hindu Shiv Temple built during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It was constructed by one of his courtier Veer Bhan in 1841.
